It would be a wonderfull idea, sadly due to the game mechanics in GW making a belivable representation of 1 sport would take the devs like 6 months for each sport while they are suposed to be working on the next expantion.
GW character can walk and fight, they can also activate usable objects, that then have a scripted effect.
there are no random or action based routines in the game(such as gravity it instantly makes sports usable, but gw does not have it everything moves aoutomatically over the ground or in prefixed animations)
You can tell becouse other wise items would bounce(or not if they are heavy like) or fall down holes when mobs drop them.
the only feasable intake would be a random effect usable item, but that would be more like gambeling than a sport.
How ever it does make poker(and the like) feasable, and not that hard to do in a short time.
Although you could make a rugby game, where you use skills to implement the rules, a carryable item for the ball, a area that disables all non rugby skills, and give the players skills like run(for linebackers only), a half the normal range pass attack that may miss, goal kick(quarter backs only) a touch bassed sure shot pass, a knock down skill that makes players drop their caried item.
It would be sorta like normal pvp but, with special skills that are the only ones you can use and some mission goals.
taken that into account there are several team sports that can be 'faked' trough the use of skills that reperesent actions used in that sport, true olimpic sports(most of them solo) would not be realisable but, other team sports that have layed out rule sets, and relly on: "Fastest one to Click 'this' withouht any one doing 'this' and being near 'this'. "
Those would be at least possible, not easy perhaps and unbalanced, but still possible.
EDIT: This is suposed to go in the Sandectorion forum thsi place is for classes

Any sort of idea on the level of the Olympics would be infeasible.
However, betting on computer-run events (eg. animal races, gladiator battles), card games such as poker, or some board games (ie, chess), randomized "Simon says" game are all feasible without huge amounts of development investment.

The only viable idea I've seen in this regard is a running competition, where people sign up, get an item that prevents them from mapping on the map screen, and run from point A to point B (LA to amnoon, for example).

Wow, people are so short sighted. Any number of throwing games can be incorperated, marathon and running games can be made, and even some unarmed combat sports could be developed, like boxing and kick boxing, it takes about 3 motions to produce a boxing match, fists up, punch, and getting punched. With a few tweaked functions these can offer unique gameplay and plenty of entertainment.
I really get tired of weak minds saying "well that can't happen", like you even know enough to explain what you believe, you don't know so your only opinion should be that you don't know.
